The Southwest Committee welcomes Ceyhun Oszoy of the Oszoy School of Ballet. Ceyhun Oszoy founded Ozsoy School of Ballet in Duncanville in the fall of 1990. A distinguished performing career, Ceyhun has been part time faculty at Texas Christian University and is currently teaching at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as part time faculty. He is also on the full time faculty at Joffrey Ballet School’s summer program in New York City and runs some of the ballet auditions around the country for Joffrey Ballet School.
Mr. Ozsoy has danced major roles in such ballets as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, La Fille Mal Gardee, Les Patineurs, Les Rendezvous, Les Sylphides, Pineapple Pole, Orpheous, Judith, La Valse, Tommy, Paquita, Romeo & Juliet, Konservatoriet, Don Quixote, Coppelia, Pas de Quatre (for four men), Glazunov Suite, and many more operas and musicals.
Mr. Ozsoy came to the United States in 1982 and taught master classes and choreographed ballets around the country. He served as Ballet Master for eight years with Delta Festival Ballet in New Orleans. He was part time faculty at Texas Christian University for fifteen years until 2008, and is currently teaching at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as part time faculty. He is also on the full time faculty at Joffrey Ballet School’s summer program in New York City and runs some of the ballet auditions around the country for Joffrey Ballet School. In addition, Mr. Ozsoy has taught company classes by invitation of Sylvie Reynaud, Director of the Compañia Nacional de Danza in Mexico City for the last three summers.
In the spring of 2001, Mr. Ozsoy was named Distinguished Teacher of the Year by the Presidential Scholars Program.
He and his family moved to Duncanville and founded Ozsoy School of Ballet in the fall of 1990. His son Firat Kazbek Ozsoy, was a member of the Houston Ballet Company.
The Southwest Committee CCA welcomes Karin Celeste to the Fall Seminar. Karin taught her first workshop at the age of 15 where she discovered her love of teaching and expression through choreography. Karin also trained in the Theatre from age ten, ending up in various productions from Annie Get Your Gun in 1992 to Anything goes in 2011. Karin founded the youth hip hop company the Xtended Urban Dance Co. in 2005 with 4 kids, which led to 40 company members and a Jr. Xtended Co. which involves kids as young as 7 in community outreach. Karin also founded Define dance company, a contemporary dance co. whose sole purpose is to meet the needs of the community through dance and to inspire others to achieve their dreams.
June Smith, Liaison to the Southwest Cecchetti Committee, will be our special guest at the Fall seminar. June holds her Maestro Cecchetti Diploma certificate and is the National Registrar for the Cecchetti Council of America. June will be teaching classes in Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced, and Diploma. Register on our Events Page at www.southwestcca.org
The October air is crisp with the hint of the season ahead and our Fall Seminar is this weekend. We are graced this fall with Yvette Bauder of The Dance Movement in Plano, TX. Yvette has been the primary coordinator and organizer for our Seminar. Make sure and give her many thanks for her efforts and contributions. The Seminar includes guest artists Ceyhun Ozsoy, Karin Celeste, and June Smith. Classes will be offered to ages 8 and up. All grade levels of the Cecchetti method will be presented. Kathleen Tenniswood-Powell, noted scholar and historian, will be at the Seminar in these classes teaching Pointe variations and more. Advanced levels of training will be offered at the Fall Seminar Saturday and Sunday. Grades V- VII and Diploma are scheduled both days. Beautiful and challenging to watch as these advanced level dancers tackle the Cecchetti classes this weekend.
